The recent rapid increase in population and the developments on the material civilization have brought moderns emotional poverty and have caused various diseases by separating the body and the emotion due to the all kind of stresses. The terminology ¡°Stress¡± has been an indicator to evaluate the modern civilization and has been appeared as a huge by-product of modern days since the Canadian doctor, Hans Selye, promoted the outset of the stress doctrine. He recognized stresses as a non-particular response as of an organizational consumption response to the gene and later Cannon(1920) and Selye(1930) researched into a notion of stress breaking the homeostasis. Precisely, one of the core factors of stresses is excessive or continuous state of tension.
As a result, 50% and/or 80% of diseases the moderns are experiencing is presumably caused by stresses and stresses suppress and simulate the body and the mind of a person so that when the person could not overcome the stress, he or she would experience not only the physical symptoms such as headache, neuralgia, sleeplessness, trouble breathing, indigestion, loss of appetite, palpitation, numbness of hands/feet, and decrease in sexual ability but also the emotional symptoms such as loss of will, uneasiness, depression, anxiety, and nervousness which will cause the interference with the daily life and will result a visit to the hospital in severe cases. Therefore, for moderns the relaxation from the tension would be one way of core approach to increase and maintain owns health and to prevent and treat.
Relaxation proved to be effective with various diseases related to stresses and could be applied to disorders related to uneasiness, sleeplessness, high blood pressure, headache caused by tension, migraine, asthma, decrease in stress, preparation for delivery, disorders in stomach/intestine, and menstrual irregularity clinically.
The changes occurred in relaxation state could be measured by observing the state of brain waves. The most significant changes occurred in two areas of the automatic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system processes slowly. This nervous system controls body temperature, digestion ability, heartbeat, respiratory rate, blood circulation, and contraction of muscle. On contrast, the parasympathetic nervous system increases activities. This will reduce the consumption of oxygen and physically will decrease the amount of carbon oxide, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and blood cholesterol level. Measurement of muscle and movement of the viscera organs process more effectively. For the brain waves, alpha which is related to deep physical relaxation state and emotional security and theta which appears in deeply absorbed internal state increase significantly. In recent research, it suggests that the biochemical changes occur as mood altering chemical quality (known as neurotransmission) increases in the body. Especially, body hormone such as serotonin increases in the relation with the emotions such as sense of security and euphoria.
Thereupon the author reports the following results after observing 70 people about effects of stresses on facial temperature before and after the relax therapy. |
