Daeyang E&C, well known for MC Square, fell into a agony as it went into studying paper business. It was impossible to print studying papers with exist off set printing method.
Because Daeyang had to print for students who have different studying achievement levels, it was impossible to POD (Print On Demand) with existing off set printing method which prints mass quantity with same contents.
Therefore Daeyang E&C quickly turned to digital printing method. Daeyang set out a trial examination to acknowledge individual level. Based on the scores form the examination and with DB and network of Question Bank, Daeyang extracted and printed individual student information and questions that are suitable for each level. For the cover which contains name of the paper, school, and name, Daeyang used existing off set method, but for main papers which contain questions that vary according to students, Daeyang adopted digital printing method.
Publishing and printing business which is categorized as decaying business is facing strong 'e wind'. Publishing and printing business which can be portrayed as roars form huge off set printer and ink odor that stimulates nose, thought to be a dead angle area of digital evolution. However, unlike eBook or web-zine the digital printing changes the printing process itself therefore it is predicted that the wave effect would be enormous by industry. According to CAP Ventures, american market research institute, the growth rate of off set printing industry is only about 4% by 2005, on the contrarily it is predcited to 18% for the digital printing industry.
There are 7~8 companies that supply digital printers in domestic. However, the companies able to produce digital printers which enable double variable data printing are only 5 companies like HP Indigo, Fuji Xerox, and OCE.
HP Indigo adopts electronic ink method, which has similar structure to off set printer method. Electronic ink is a core technology of HP Indigo and it is used in wide range not only on the papers but also on the label, file and coated papers.
Korea Fuji Xerox put forth strength on 'Dacu Color Series' in domestic digital color printer market. These products is released to overcome quality of off set printers with the size of A3 and 4 degree primary color printer. CPS700 which is digital printing system of OCE is method that when printing the powder toner is changed to ink form and printed on papers. Therefore there is no toner flying and semi permanent and since there is no heat 장착부, the papers have less metamorphosis.
Even though the digital evolution in printing market is strong, still there are obstacles to overcome. It is general to say that its resolution and economical part is way behind compare to off set printing method. It is also a problem that among the suppliers there is not one domestic company. Especially for the mass production, off set printing excels.
Hiedelberg, the world largest off set production of German, affiliated with Kodak and advanced to digital printer market and gave up. It happened in same vein.
Moon Sang Shon, the vice president of Korea Fuji Xerox, commented on this "Off set printing and digital printing intend to different markets." and "It is important to increase self pie of publishing and printing market for mutual profit."
